Pete has spent the last 20 years preparing leaders to communicate with the news media when the stakes are high. He also shows them how to stand out from the competition by appearing regularly in the news media and becoming best selling co-authors.
As a former daily newspaper reporter, he is well aware of what the media want. Just as importantly, he has worked on the other side of the news. As a high-profile press secretary, he advised Cabinet Ministers on how to deal effectively with the Media. His advisory role extended to that of spokesperson.
Pete works with leaders in multiple sectors across Australia and New Zealand, and has specific programmes for franchise systems and schools. These include media interview training and crisis communication planning.
Following feedback from multiple clients that Pete's media training was just as effective in managing difficult conversations at work, he created another workshop. This bough together the relevant aspects of media training with those specifically focused on difficult conversations to create the workshop, "Difficult Conversation Skills for Business Executives."
Pete has two Masters Degrees. The first is in Journalism from the University of Canterbury and the second in Communication Management from the Sydney University of Technology.
He lives in Christchurch with his wife Stephanie and daughter Olivia. He travels regularly with his work and likes to stay active. He ran his first (and last) marathon as a 38-year-old.
